Sinister Cinema Shorts
Based on the comic book by Steve Bissette, the film opens with spiders meticulously weaving their webs, getting ready for the nightly catch.
The music of the film changes to a more sinister mood as a man is revealed.
He appears to be being held captive as a set of decayed hands slowly reach toward his face.
Mother ghost is sligtly revealed as she tells him of her pain when she had to endure the death of her daughter.
She introduces two more entites who also have endured pain.
As they tell of their suffereing, their plight is uncovered. His sins are uncovered. And they procede in giving his his just deserts.
This is the film that prompted the idea to start this section in my column.
I very much enjoyed this film! It fit the elements of a full feature and included all the feelings like shock, creepiness, restlessness, and anguish that a true horror film has.
The graphics in the film way surpass what you would expect from any short film not made by a big company. They were exactly enough for the film and never felt overdone.
The film's wicked enviroment was perfectly creepy and disturbing, matching the mood it was trying to create.
This is a must see and can be found at www.cottonmouth.tv
The second film starts with the same young man in frame. He seems to be externally placid while internally turmoilulous.
There is a long period to showcase this, which by admittance, I didnt particularly care for I felt it was too drawn out, but then it goes back into dialog.
He narrates the stalking of another victim. He tells the reasons why he picked her and goes into how much he follows her as she confidently walks home alone. He alerts to the danger of such behavior which makes it even more creepy. He explains how he feels as he walks into her apartment as she sleeps. He is obsessed with her. He wants to be there when she takes her last breathe. He stabs her repeatedly and when he act is finished, he states "I will miss her".This is like my worst fear! The dialog brings all of the events into such light that it makes you think about each time you have walked home alone or forgot to lock your front door before bed.
The third film shows him in handcuffs.
He is reliving some of his crimes and seeing past victims as he awaits his final destination. He talks again of God and Satan and how although he knows he has asked for forgiveness, God had already turned his back on him, so he is trying to accept his fate. He does state that he only feels the need to repent because he is caught. He narrates his life and his regrets until he is brought back into a room where he states "Im sorry I was Born".
My absolute applause to Reyna!
This was an absolutely unnerving and sinister film that sucsessfully creeped me out. Probably one of the best dives into the twisted mind of a psycho that I have seen in quite some time. The dialog was astounding. She really crawled into the belly of the beast for this one and I hope she one day turns this into a feature. It is hard to find such talent and originality but sometimes you find it in a short film.If you do ever decide to feature it Reyna, I want in!

Movie Madness
Here is where I will discuss some of the films I have had the pleasure or unfortunite experience of watching.
One of my all time favorite movies when I was a kid was MONSTER SQUAD and recently had the chance to buy it again.
Although it made me exceptionally happy, it also gave me a disappointed feeling of films today.
MONSTER SQUAD had some of the best designed creatures in a film to date.
Remember the Swamp man?!
That was genus! The Frankenstein kicked ass and lets face it, Dracula was hot!
Fast forward 20 years (Doesnt that make ya feel old?!) and look what we have now? Nothing like we did in the 80's.
Fuck, just think of Freddy. You dont get craftsmanship in movies today like you did back then and we have 10000 more ways to create them.
CGI has become the blanket over films today and I think its sad that the capabilities that are available now are overshadowed by computers and artificial imagery.
We need more care put into our creatures like they did back then.
But enough of the rant, I LOVE that movie today as much as I did as a kid. I remember how hysterical is was when 'Fat Kid' stared in awe as he found out 'Wolfman has nards!' and that part got me laughing all over again. And lets agree that the scene when the kids, the dog, and Frankenstein walk off into the sunset was just a beautiful and entertaining shot.
I also found it interesting, as an adult, when the kids tell the 'Scary German Guy' that he knows a lot about monsters, he agrees and when closing the door it exposes the tattoo he had on his arm from the Concentration Camps. That just stayed with me a bit, probably because I didnt find out until later what it meant, I was young remember! haha
To close this up, I do have to say that in many ways, I feel this was one of the greatest general audience horror films to date! I am so glad I got a chance to watch it again all these years later, and so should you!

fan of the week
Meet Anthony, a completely obsessed horror buff!
If you find him on myspace, you see he makes it his duty to keep the masses informed with the latest horror news. Def a guy after our own corpse!
Heres what Anthony had to say:

My love for horror started at age 7 ... the film was Part V A New Beginning, and Jason Voorhees was my new hero. Friday The 13th for Nintendo left me wanting to know more about the series, I had a couple of unanswered questions that Parts 1 through 4 could answer. Betsy Palmers performance was awesome, as well as Harry Manfredini background music, it really added to the suspense of it all. Adrienne King made me never want to open a fridge again, and I saw that there was more to Corey Feldman than just Mouth on The Goonies. By the time I was 8 ... Jason was in Manhattan, and I was vacationing with my parents in Italy.
Horror was always a big in Italy, it was a Saturday and Fright Night II was playing. I loved this movie! Charlie Brewster & Peter Vincent were my favorite team of vampire killers, the Fright Night movies were a mix of horror & comedy ... Roddy McDowall's performance was hysterical leaving the fans wanting a Fright Night 3.

Nightmare On Elm Street was another favorite in the Old Country, I remember watching the first three in one day loving every second of it. Although the next three installments were a bit of a disappointment ... Wes Craven's New Nightmare got me back into Freddy, having the characters play themselves, making Nightmare realistic ... it was the best way for him to end it I thought. Then came 2003, where we had the pleasure of going to the theaters to see two of our favorite slashers go at it in Freddy VS Jason ... around this same time my all time favorite character would go up in space in Jason X, taking place in the year 2455.

I could never get bored with horror ... from George Romero's Dead Series, to Sam Raimi's Evil Dead Trilogy ... following 30 years of Michael Myers, to a transexual killer in Sleepaway Camp. At 27 years old I have all my favorites on DVD ... and my collection grows weekly. I've made it a goal to try and own every horror movie known to man ... but am going to switch to watching every movie, it's a lot cheaper.
