We loved them, we grew up with them and we see them throughout our lives, like em or not. Those promotional horror images promoting the films of our days and the films of yesterdays.

Sources from Horrornews.net states:

"We wanted to post something special for the fans, both young and old. Before the internet the only way to collect such things were though news clippings and film posters (which even at the time were hard to acquire). So scanning, and downloading weren't options. Today, you have access to poster images pretty much minutes after they go live, so the times have changed."

"Our original intention was to showcase these images in a virtual hall of fame on Horrornews, and it just grew from there. Now with releases coming out at about 10-30 a week it is almost impossible to keep up with. Though we do try and post what we can. I was recently looking at stats for the earlier years and counted about 15 releases for year 1970 and about 30 for 1971 (give or take). Compare that to the 80 or so releases a month we have now and it is apparent that time shave changed. Of course take into account, re-releases, re-packages and special editions...but the point is pretty clear. "

"So what we've done, which was no easy task is try and preserve the memories of such films thru a collection of cover images, posters and ad clips as an easy to navigate gallery. Viewers can search for there films alphabetically and pull up the cover images pretty quickly. "

"What's also unique is that some images were promoted that never got released, others faded fast and out of circulation and some were only posted as adverts with the finals becoming something completely different. Such in case is the "Bloody Valentine 3D" poster going around that will probably change 4-6 times before landing on a final promotional image. Can you find these on Amazon.com? Many yes, but many no... and add to that the fact that Amazon doesn't feature multiple art versions but just what is posted with the DVD's they sell. So we feature them, but not for profit. Just for genre appreciation."

"So what next? Well we'll do our best to keep up with the times and post what we find. If something is missing, it probably didn't get forgotten , its probably in the que to be added. For now, sleep well knowing that images of our times are still appreciated by the horror community."

Well check it out for yourselves over at www.horrornews.net. under the tab "Poster & Ads Archive" It looks like another 400 images just got added with many more to follow. Oh and give yourself a few hours as well.
